WWI – The Christmas Truce of 1914

This is a beautiful reminder of humanity, even in the darkest of days.  We are all created by God; deep down, we are all simply people. This reminds me so much of what Shifty Powers said about the German soldiers he fought against during WWII:

“We might have had a lot in common. He might’ve liked to fish, you know, he might’ve liked to hunt,” Powers said. “Of course, they were doing what they were supposed to do, and I was doing what I was supposed to do, but under different circumstances, we might have been good friends.”

No matter what battles we are fighting, we must always try to have a compassionate heart towards others and remember that others have struggles of their own. I understand that during a real war, this is not always possible to do, but oh, how beautiful it is when it happens!

Kudos to Sainsbury’s for this great ad, and bringing to the forefront a little bit of our history that may have well been forgotten.  (The second video gives a little back story, if you are interested in seeing it)
