Phil Wickham: Children of God

I was recently asked to review Phil Wickham’s new album, “Children of God”.  As a music lover, I was more than happy to oblige!

Before we get to my review, I want to give you a bit of Phil’s back-story, as it is really quite inspiring.

In 2014, Phil didn’t know whether or not he would ever be able to sing again, as he had been diagnosed with a vocal polyp. It was able to be removed, but there was no guarantee as to whether or not his voice would ever be the same.

He took his worries and struggles to God, and he felt God speak to his heart and let him know that everything was going to be ok. Phil stated,

“There have only been a few times in my life where I felt, undeniably, His voice speaking to me. This was one of them. He said my identity was not in what I do, but it’s in who He says I am. He said, ‘I’m your Father. You’re my child. Trust me.‘”

Phil trusted God, and as a result, he found a new freedom and a new love for what he does; creating beautiful music that speaks to the heart of all.  ♥

My Thoughts: 3.5 Stars

I personally rated this CD as a 3.5 stars. I would have rated it a bit higher, but to me it seemed fairly bass heavy (at least on my personal CD player), and seemed a bit “overdone” and busy. I think there was just a bit too much going on. It almost felt like it was produced with the sole intent of being played to large crowds, rather than being a personal/single user CD.

With that being said, it is still a nice CD to listen to when you want to pop a praise and worship CD in while you are working or driving in your car.

If you are unfamiliar with Phil Wickham, here is a video sample of the type of music he performs.
