2010 – Personal Goals

Happy New Year, friends and family! I hope that 2009 brought many joys your way, and that 2010 will bring you more blessings than you know what to do with!

It seems funny to be looking at the date; January 1, 2010. As a kid, the year 2010 seemed like something from a sci-fi movie. Certainly not a date I ever thought about writing down on a piece of paper – or in this case, on a blog for all the world to see. Crazy to think how communication has changed since I was a little girl. At that time, the only way you could communicate with one another was either with a pen and paper, or by using a telephone. Now, there seem to be 100 different gadgets out there you can use. Out of all the “new” gadgets though, blogging is still my favorite.  It allows me to do two things that I love; keep in contact with all those I care about, and to write out my thoughts and feelings. It’s a beautiful thing.

With that being said, are you making any New Years resolutions this year? I am not a big fan of resolutions, but I do believe the new year is a great time to think about your life, decide what you want to see in the coming year, and maybe even set some personal goals to work towards. I guess in a sense, that is a resolution, but I prefer the term personal goal. It seems more obtainable that way. :)

I have been thinking about this a lot today, and have come up with a small list of things I would like to accomplish this year. They may not seem like much to some of you, but each of my goals are defining to me in some way, whether big or small.

  1. Deepen my relationship with the Lord.
We are so blessed to be be able to have the personal freedom to worship as we choose, without the fear of persecution, and yet we take advantage of that on a day to day basis. The Lord is always faithful to us, so how come we let our day to day lives get in the way of spending even an hour each day with Him? I wonder how we would feel if the Lord only wanted to spend a few minutes with us each day, or heaven forbid, go for days/weeks/years without caring for us? What a miserable life we would lead. Lord forgive me for my lack of quality communication with You each day!
  2. Get out of the house more!
I am such a homebody. I work from home, take care of my family from home, and relax at home. I seriously need to get out of the house more … even it if is just for an hour a day to get some fresh air or go for a walk! Anything to simply get myself out of the house, and *live* a little.
  3. Create a 2010 daily scrapbook.
I am going to *attempt* to take at least one photograph per day for the next 365 days, and scrap them into an album. That way at the end of 2010, we can look back on our year with fond memories of things we may have forgotten about. The photos are going to be totally random; they may be photos of my family, something I find pretty, the de-cluttering process of our home, volunteer work … just about anything. I am really looking forward to this project!
  4. Blog More.
This may tie into the 2010 scrapbook at some point. I have been very defunct in my blogging, and because of that, I know there are a lot of memorable things that have happened that I don’t have any “record” of.  I am seriously considering printing out each day’s blog, (if I can find the wherewithal to actually blog every day), and adding it into my scrapbook along with my photos. My guess is I won’t blog daily, but I am going to try to blog much more often.
  5. Give back to others.
I would really like to take some time to do some volunteer work this year. Spend some time with the elderly, create and deliver cards and/or gifts to children in the hospital, serve dinner to the homeless. Our lives shouldn’t be centered just around ourselves; we should be working to better the lives of everyone around us. I am going to start in my own community.

Well, that is my list. I hope that you all will join me as I blog my way through 2010. Keep me accountable, ask me what new projects I am working on, and most of all … keep me motivated! I would love to hear what your personal goals are for this year. If you blog, leave your blog address and I will try to follow you as well. :)

Now, to kick things off, I would like to thank my husband and son who let me snap their pics for today’s photo. I chose to start with them because they make me laugh on a daily basis. In a house full of testosterone, I need that! LOL! Love you both!

Much love and many blessings for the coming new year,
