Christians Are Intolerant? Maybe.

There are many, many people who claim that Christians are intolerant. This is something that baffles me. Just because I am a Christian that automatically makes me intolerant? Hmmmm.

What is intolerance?

1. not tolerating or respecting beliefs, opinions, usages, manners, etc., different from one’s own, as in political or religious matters; bigoted.

Nope. Not me.

Funny thing is, most of the time the claims that Christians are intolerant are being made by people who seem to have an all-out vendetta against Christians. Some of the most vocal seem to be self-proclaimed Athiests. They say they do not believe in God at all.

My question is this; if they don’t believe in God at all, why do they care if I do? As far as that goes, why do they seem dead set on “proving” there is no God? Why do they like trying to tear down Christianity as a whole and seem to find some sort of enjoyment in finding different ways to bash my faith?

So far, these are some of the things I have heard:

• Since I believe that Jesus is the only way to salvation; this means I am intolerant.
• Since I do not believe in abortion; this means I am intolerant.
• Since I do not condone the homosexual/gay/lesbian/transgendered lifestyle; this makes me intolerant.
• Since I am against having a liberal President, this makes me intolerant.

There are many more examples, but these are a just a few off the top of my head. What I don’t understand is how those who are so loudly proclaiming that Christianity is a farce and who do anything and everything they can to try to trash Christianity in general can call *me* intolerant? Isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black? Sure, they are tolerant of every other “faith” or “religion” out there, but certainly not Christianity! Kind of hypocritical, don’t you think?

Just an FYI ….

• I do believe that Christ is the only way to Salvation, but I won’t shove it down anyone’s throat. Am I happy to share my faith in Christ? Of course! If you ever want to talk, let me know. I’m here.
• I do not believe in abortion, but I will certainly not turn away or withhold my friendship from someone who has had one. God’s love covers all transgressions.
• I do not condone homosexual activity, but I will never be cruel to any human being nor will I treat them like a second-class citizen. Just because I don’t condone something doesn’t mean I am a bigot.
• I am against having a liberal President who does not share my principles, but I still pray for him and for my nation.

God has not called me to judge anyone; He has called me to love. I may not agree with certain doctrine, lifestyle choices, or political views, but that does not make me intolerant. It simply means I am my own person with my own beliefs … just like everyone else.

Why do some feel the need to be bigoted towards me because of that? Sounds a lot like intolerance.

Well, hold on. I guess I might be a little intolerant. These are a few things I find myself getting very irritated with:

• Parents who allow their children to back-talk, cuss, and be totally disrespectful of others.
• Kids who run around with their underwear showing; boys and girls!
• People who park in handicapped spaces … and they are not handicapped.
• Bullies.
• Oh, yeah. Let’s not forget those who judge me without even knowing me … just because I am a Christian.
