The Truly Awesome Cookie?

As a BzzAgent, I get to try lots of very cool products … for free! This week I received my two full-sized packages of Kroger brand “The Truly Awesome Homestyle Chocolate Chip Cookie” to test out and review.

There are 8 cookies per box, and they are a decent sized cookie; probably the size you would make them if you were baking cookies from scratch. I have mixed feelings about the product, so my review is going to begin with a list of pro’s and con’s. (Do you use an apostrophe when writing pro’s and con’s?)

    The Pro’s:

  • Large cookies – nothing skimpy about them!
  • Filled with tons of chocolate chips
  • A nice buttery flavor
  • For a boxed cookie, the taste is probably closer to homemade than most

    The Con’s:

  • They are a *VERY* hard cookie
  • Fairly crumbly and messy
  • They have an almost grainy texture

Now, for a little personal input …

The cookie flavor was actually pretty good. You could taste the butter and even the brown sugar, which you don’t find in most boxed cookies. They also filled them chock full of chocolate chips, so that was a nice. (Especially for a chocolate lover like me!)

I honestly think that the biggest problem I found with the cookies is that they really were very hard! For someone with sensitive teeth (or dentures!) they would be a not-so-nice cookie experience. The grainy texture really wasn’t my favorite either, but that is just a personal preference.

There was a little list of ideas on the box to try the cookie in different ways. The first one says,

“Microwave for a few seconds, you’d think they just came out of the oven, yum!”

Hmmmm. Not true. Maybe it just happened to be the two boxes I received? Could be, but I doubt it.

I microwaved one for a few seconds; the cookie was still hard and crumbly. Microwaved another for much longer than a few seconds (until the chocolate started to melt); the cookie was still hard, but not *as* hard. Definitely better, but not fresh-out-of-the-oven by any stretch of the imagination.

So, were these honestly a “truly awesome” cookie? Eh. Not so much. At least not in my opinion. They certainly weren’t terrible and the flavor is full and rich, but for me, if a product is going to brand themselves as “awesome”, then they need to follow through with their claim. Had the cookies been softer, they would have come much closer.

Even my cookie connoisseur hubby agreed with me on this one. ;)

With all of that being said, I will still be giving out the coupons that were sent to me, so I would appreciate it if you receive one and purchase a box that you would come back here to leave me some feedback. I would love to hear your opinion.

And if you are a crunchy cookie type of person … try out a box. They may just be the “truly awesome” cookie you are looking for!
