So, now that I’ve shared the highlights of 2015, let me tell you a few of the things that we are planning for 2016. At the top of our list, is some major home remodeling. Woo hoo!
We were previously going to put our house on the market this Spring, and try to find a place with more land that contained a second house or RV hookups, so that we could move Mom & Dad out there with us. Unfortunately, the market for what we are looking for has been very slim, which is crazy. You would think it would be easy to pick up land in Montana. Alas, not so much. (Well, at least not under $500,000!)
So, that led us to option #2; we are going to look into refinancing our current home, and using a portion of our equity to turn our big double garage into an apartment.
It will be kind of like “tiny home” living (about 550 sq. ft) for Mom & Dad, but we think it will be a very cute little space when it is all done. It will be so nice to have them right next door! ♥ Once that is completed, we will start working on the back yard and turning it into the garden and chicken coop space we’ve been planning. We will have to be tiny homesteaders, for the time being. (Forgive the scraggly trees in this pic … this was taken at the very beginning of Spring before the leaves came in.)
As for work, Derek will continue to remain where he is, and I will continue to work from home. Now that Montana has a Cottage Law, I will be able to get licensed to sell my homemade breads, jams, and cakes without having to bake in a commercial kitchen. Yay! I’ve been waiting about 5 or 6 years for the Cottage Law to pass, so that is very exciting!
I will also continue to do web design and graphics for my current clients. As a matter of fact, I am in the process of updating the website for my friend, author Janice A. Thompson. (You can’t see any difference now, but it will be coming soon, I promise.) It’s been quite a few years since I originally designed it, and she’s ready for a face-lift.
Derek has an album that he has been working on (so faithfully!) and is hoping to have it released this Spring. Right now, it is just waiting for the vocal tracks to be finished, and then he will have it ready to go. So, so proud of my husband and his talent. ♥
Last but not least, I have a *ton* of books to read and review for various publishers, as well as some fun blog giveaways that will be coming very soon! I feel a bit overwhelmed with the sheer volume at the moment, but I really can’t complain … it’s a bookworm’s dream!
Here is a sneak peek of some of the titles I’ve been sent so far, in just this first week of January ….
I look forward to spending 2016 with you all!
